Start your journey to Tibet with a spectacular flight over the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains past Mt. Everest, Malaku and Kanchanjunga. In Lhasa visit the famous Potala and Norbulinkha palaces, the great Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and walk amongst the crowded Tibetan market - the bustling Barkor Bazaar. Drive past the beautiful Turquoise lake on the way to the historic town of Gyantse with its unique multi-storied Kumbum Stupa.
Our itinerary also includes the famous but rarely visited Shalu and Sakya Monasteries. After visiting the Tashilungpo at Shigatse we start our drive over the Himalayas by way of the incredible Arniko Highway that connects Katmandu with Lhasa. Enjoy fabulous Himalayan mountain scenery again - this time from ground level!! Once over the high passes flanked by a range of Himalayan giants we enter a land of lush subtropical jungles and rushing streams as we descend steeply into the Bhote Koshi Gorge towards Nepal. At the town of Zhangmu on the Tibet-Nepal border we bid farewell to our Tibet friends and drive through the terraced countryside of Nepal to end our journey in Katmandu. An unforgettable encounter with forbidden Tibet.

Itinerary:
Day 1 - Saturday:
ARRIVE LHASA (3650m)
Fly from Chengdu to Gongar Airport, Lhasa in Tibet.
Upon arrival you will be met by your Tibet Guide and transferred (90 Kms) to Lhasa. Hotel.
Day 2 (Sunday):
LHASA SIGHTSEEING (3650m)
Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State oracle of Tibet. Hotel.
Day 3 (Monday):
LHASA SIGHTSEEING (3650m)
Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet, Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple, Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace. Hotel.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
LHASA-GYANGTSE (3990m, 350 Kms).
Drive via Yamdrok Tso, the Turquoise Lake, to Gyangtse across Kampa-la (5050 m) & Karo-la (5045 m) passes. Visit Kubum Stupa & Pelkor Chode Monastery. Hotel.
Day 5 (Wednesday):
GYANGTSE-SHALU-SHIGATSE (3860m, 90 Kms).
Drive to Shigatse. En route visit Shalu Monastery. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama who is the 2nd in the Tibetan Buddhist religious hierarchy & Shigatse Market. Hotel.
Day 6 (Thursday):
SHIGATSE-SAKYA-SHEGAR (4350m, 232 kms)
Drive to Shegar across Tsou-la pass (4500 m) & Gyatso-la pass (5220 m). En route visit Sakya Monastery. Hotel.
Day 7 (Friday):
SHEGAR-ZHANGMU (2300 m, 160 Kms)
Drive over Lalung-la pass to Zhangmu. En route visit Milarepa Cave. Hotel.
Day 8 (Saturday):
KATHMANDU (125 kms)
Walk across Friendship Bridge to Nepal & transfer to Katmandu.
End of Tour.
NOTE: This tour is available in the reverse order also – starting every Saturday.
TOUR INCLUDES:
- Tibet Travel Permit, entrance fees;
- twin share accommodation in respective hotels;
- tours and transfers with English speaking guide;
- all land transport;
- all the meals.
TOUR COST EXCLUDES:
EXTRAS - as applicable:
- China Group Visa fees;
- any tips (guide, driver, etc.);
- photography charges at monasteries/palaces/sites;
- extras cost for up-grading rooms at hotels if/when applicable;
- any cost arising from political disturbances, strikes, cancellation of flights, deviation in program, delays due to landslides/ road blockage, or otherwise.
